I recently used the No. 4 loading for a trip to hunt diving ducks on Wisconsin’s Pool 9 of the Upper Mississippi. In-field performance on fast-flying and heavy bodied canvasbacks matched pattern testing results from my 1907 mfg Hopkins and Allen hammer double choked roughly f/f. Most of the birds hit inside 35yds dropped dead, but I don’t know that I’d try it much beyond that. 6 birds in under a half box. Expensive but worth it to get a piece of history back in the field! The guides were seriously impressed after initially expressing their doubts about such a “slow and light” load. They are as easy on the ears as they are on the shoulder!
